Depth of Field

You will learn about "Depth of Field" in this class. Sometimes photographers will use confusing terms such as "aperture" and "wide open" and "Fstops" and ....

But the concept is pretty easy.

look at these two photos... what do you notice?

See the background of this photo?

Now see how the background is in focus?

CheckList for Photo 1

Before I shoot, I create a list. (I created a similar list for Advanced Photography.) During a photo shoot,  I am thinking about to many moving things. I do not want to worry about whether I packed an extra battery or the correct lens.

This is a partial list of the tasks you should have completed to this point.

1. email address appropriate for college and career
2. appropriate email address that has passed the spam filter
3. gmail signature
4. clean link at bottom of signature that directs to blog
5. signature and link checked by group
6. a photography blog from blogger (with appropriate title)
7. contacts added in gmail
8. email profile with first and last name
9. email group of your group
10. know the first and last names of your group; know Group Leader and Asst Group Leader
11. Group Member Link List on blog
12. Photo Site Link List on blog
13. First Assignment Blog Post about Light
14. Composition Links (with 3 links)

Elements of Art - Photo Walk (and blog post ASSIGNMENT)

Elements of Art

NOTE: The date for this post has changed. Originally, we had scheduled "Elements of Art" for earlier last week. Our three Photography 1 classes need to understand composition better before moving to this assignment. Please watch this video about composition with your group.

Search for the Elements of Art?

How many? What are they? Who chose them?

Why is a photograph of a stack of chairs have anything to do with the Elements of Art?

First Assessment - Reflection

Write a self evaluation in an email, discussing your strengths and weaknesses as a group member so far in this class.

You can answer some or all of these questions.

What could you do better? What have you done well? What has been difficult? What has surprised you about being in a group?

Also, include all of your group members names. Include first and last name! Why is it important for you to know your group members names?

Composition Comments

After your group has posted links about Photography and Composition, review each group member's post and comment about an article that they posted.

What did you learn from their post?

What is composition?

How can you improve composition?

NOTE: This link has been added on September 8, 2013 to help students understand composition better. Each group will watch it together.

Composition

When you write an email with Gmail, what button do you click to start the message? When you begin creating a blog post, what button do you click? The answer to both questions is the same.

Compose.

In photography, what does Composition mean?

Write a blog post about composition and photography. In your blog post, include three links about photography and composition that you want to use later in the year.
